Lots of "Firsts" Going On...

With all of these new changes happening in the Lewis household, I decided to start something new myself by blogging.  Hopefully my life will be interesting enough to hold your attention! If not, I will pretend the whole world finds me utterly fascinating and live in ignorant bliss.  I really wanted to start this blog to keep my loved ones involved in Hannah's and Airy's lives (mine & Josh's too, of course).  Being in the Army keeps us farther away than we might like so this seemed like a good option.

What are all of these new changes, you may ask?  Well, really, it's only one thing.  BUT it's a humongous change so it feels like many all at once.  Our first baby started pre-school this week!  Hannah has been asking us to go to school since she was 2 (a real "big-girl" school, hehe); so she was way more ready than I was.  I have had her home with me since she was born so, hello, separation anxiety--on my part, not hers.  Of course.  Monday was her first day and she did fabulously.  Yay!

Look at how cute she looks!  Seriously, why don't kids come with a pause button?

I wanted to start this tradition to keep track of what she says she wants to be when she grows up every year. And how fun will it be to see how her handwriting progresses?

We are lucky enough that her school is only a short walk for us.  She had a whole entourage with her on the first day.  Is there any other way for a little princess to get to school?

Look how proud Josh looks!
Her Ninong (which is Tagalog for "Godfather" and who is my cousin Tony), her Daddy, her sissy, and myself all walked her to the classroom door.  After greeting her teacher, stowing her stuff in her cubby (So exciting to have a cubby, let me tell you!), and lots of hugs and kisses, she said, "That's enough pictures, Momma."  Translation:  "Time for you to leave, lady."  She gave us all one more big kiss and we were on our way.

Can you believe how teeny-tiny she looks?
But she's not teeny-tiny.  She's a BIG girl with a big girl name tag.
Aww!  "Bye-bye Sissy."

After school, she was full of fun stories.  Her teacher, Mrs. Porterfield, said she did very well and she was so happy to have her in the class.  Hannah even already made a "best friend".  I am so proud that she did so well on her first day.  What a big girl!

Picking her up after school.

At the end of the week, Mrs. Porterfield informed me that Hannah is a great helper and a very good listener.  Just what every parent wants to hear!  (She did point out that Hannah certainly likes to talk, as well.  Is that really a surprise?  I am her mom, after all.)  Here are the major highlights of Hannah's first week as a pre-kindergartener:
  • She learned that when the horn screams, "Ah! Ah! Ah!" it means FIRE, and they have to get in a line.
  • She and her new best friend Alaina drew pictures for each other.  Hannah got a picture of cats and dogs.  They became fast friends when they saw they had the same Hello Kitty lunch box.  She also has a friend that is a boy.  (She was very quick to point out to her daddy that it was not a boyfriend.)
  • They went to P.E. and music class!  This makes me and Josh immensely happy since so many schools are phasing out physical fitness and arts programs.  They sang about the days of the week and "The Wheels on the Bus."
  • They went outside twice and she got to play "tag, you're it."
  • Hannah had THREE special jobs this week:  line leader in the cafeteria, the weather reporter before going to the playground, and the door holder.  Awe-some.
  • When I picked her up on Monday, I said, "I missed you!"  She replied, "I missed you guys too.  But it's okay because you are always with me.  You are always in my heart."  Awwww!!!  This is my favorite!
Of course, Airy had a couple of adventures of her own this week.  Life as a one-year-old is one non-stop entertainment fest.
  • She got her first taste of Thai food, which she loved.  She even went after the spicy Duck Curry Tony ate.  The waiter was amazed Airy ate all that she did.  If only he knew that he was meeting the infamous Human Garbage Disposal...
  • Airy accomplished a major kid-feat:  She figured out how to blow bubbles into her milk.  Every kid has to know that!
Whew!  If you have made it to the end of this ridiculously long post, thank you. Don't worry, from now on they will not be this long.  Maybe.  I can't really promise anything.

All of our love and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend/week!

P.S.  I would like to thank my wonderful cousin Tony (aka my personal I.T. guy) for helping me figure out my blog.  If it weren't for him, you all would totally be reading a white page with plain text and no pictures.  Bo-ring!  Tony, you are the best!
